40 kit bags plus an all nighter
May 14th, 2007Well just back from the Glo-Trotters D-Day! All I can say is how much kit!
We picked up our (free) van at some unearthly time on Saturday morning and headed to Julian’s house to load it full of our metre cubed worth of kit. After a relativly uneventful journey to Gilwell we arrived just as it started to rain! Went to Gordon’s briefing and got really embaressed by Paddy as his was one of the mobiles that went off. On the way to pick up all the kit I bumped into some of the GoJamboree members and moderators. It was really odd to see some of them again and good to meet a few new ones. It was a shame I couldn’t stay for longer but we needed to get back to Gloucestershire to sort it out ready for the Unit members pickup the next day.
The PL’s and APL’s turned up at Shurdington and we started the task of sorting out 40 peoples kit. We finished relativly quickly although how someone missed 5 water bottles from an order was amazing. The kit was sorted by 11pm and the PL’s and APL’s stayed up all night. I retired for 3 hours at about 2pm would have been longer but Julian got up. At 5:40 Tia went to make a cup of tea, by the time she got back all of the other’s had hidden and we managed to get her to run to the shop in her pyjama’s and bare feet as she thought that’s where everyone else had gone. We got it all on CCTV and it was so funny! Tia, we love you really!
At 9am everyone turned up for their kit and it was like Christmas come early for a lot of the Unit members and it was really good to watch. It really made the Jamboree seem real and really close. Until the next event, have fun and SMILE!!!
