My Centenery Camp

May 29th, 2007

Friday, arrival… Not so bad, very sunny and I got sun burnt, I spent most of this time by the front gate telling people were to go on the site and building Nelsons Ladder. We had an enjoyable evening playing on an giant inflatable ball. Rather boring. Then we had to build a tire thing from wood, by this time it was dark, cold and blah and starting to rain. Saturday, the cubs and scouts arrive… We wake up to rain, cold and wind, tents need to be checked and held down. Hi-vis is put on and we have to stand and make sure cars go in the right place and park right. We then go back and get handed out jobs, we’re asked who can bee-lay and me and two other Thriftwood crew members put their hands up, but then so does this idiot of a guy who thinks he’s so amazing and is such a kiss-bum (hehe) so we go to abseiling and this guy is bee-laying so unsafely, so we try and be nice and give him some tips, which he ignores, he then swaps with me, and says “I’ll be back in a sec” and never comes back!! In the evening we had evening entertainments, only, it was pouring with rain! it was so awful, but funny, cause no one watched the dance group, but then came back for the Explorer Band, who were really good, and we made a mini mosh pit in the rain!! Laughing Sunday, Beaver Day Cancelled Due to Poor Weather Most activities were deemed unsafe to use, and a cinema was set up in a barn over the other side of the site, in which a tractor and trailer was brought in to take Cubs and Scouts to the barn. We were set into finding things to do inside and eventually I had to sit in the craft tent and make juggling balls all day! Which SERIOUSLY hurt my fingers Sad In the evening there was a disco, campfire and leaders meeting in the barns, which no one was pleased about, cause that meant ferrying the kids to the barns, when it had been raining all day, everyone was wet, cold and tired. But it went on and near the end of the disco, my leader came up to me and told me I had to do the campfire, which was starting in about 5mins!!!!! I had to get my friend to help me plan very fast and in the end went on only knowing 5 songs we were gunna do!!! Lucky everyone was tired and it ended in about half an hour! *phew* By this time, a small scout had developed hypothermia!! and I had to give him my rain coat, which meant when I was ready to go back, I was gunna be wet Sad We then had a mini disco just for the explorers who wanted to go, so that was about 9 of us roflmao!! When it was finished it was about 11pm and we were sooooooooo tired, so we walked back and then got back to camp to find that the mess tent had blown away and that another scout troops tent had blown over and we had to help them, we didn’t go to bed until 1am and we got in to find our tent porch had flooded, flooding our bags and everything! Monday, The Evacuation We were woken up at 6am this morning, and told that everyone was packing up and we were to get hi-vis on and go to the barns and car parks asap, as the evacuation process had been started cause we just couldn’t carry on with anything, tents were blowing away, kids was cold and ill and the site was a mud bath. Me and Jenny opened our tent to find, it had flooded again, so we shoved everything into our bags as it didn’t matter anymore, cause all our kit was wet and muddy! and went out and had to help unload every-ones kit and sort it into units and then swap and do car parking. Until, I was asked to walk ALL the way back to camp, to pick up a food parcel for one of the wardens and then take it back up again, as I got back to camp, I had to help dismantle another tent that had blown over, once I’d done this, I went back to security to see if they still needed me, and they didn’t, but Jimmy let me sit in the tent for a bit cause it was cold Smile until we had to take down one of the old school brown marquee tents with the walls are tied together!!!! we shifted all the stuff and got extremely wet again Sad once this had done, we went for lunch and then tidied all the mess tent away. By this time Jenny looked ill, I was freezing and there were only Billericay and Wickford explorers left, cause Basildon had gone home Mad Jenny phoned her dad and he gave me a lift back to my empty house cause my mum’s gone away on holiday Sad (though he did offer to let me stay for a while, but I thought against it) To top it off, the Chief Scout was going to come today, but cause we had to send everyone home, we had to cancel!!!!!!!! Mad
